Louisiana - Oil Spill Related
Contact: Larry Norman, Louisiana Volunteers in Missions, (225) 346-1646 or
LduckN@aol.com

LAVIM is scheduling teams to do VBS or youth sports camps in the communities affected most by the oil spill. There are currently two slots available for July 12 - 16. Teams are invited to use materials from their own congregation's VBS to effect greater stewardship of this material.  All teaching materials, craft supplies and VBS snacks and team meal supplies need to be carried in by the team due to the increased population in these areas as well as demand on local supplies and distance to markets. Each location can house up to 20 volunteers. Teams should bring cots/bedrolls and will have access to showers as well as kitchens to prepare their own meals. Please contact Larry for more information or to schedule a team.

Tennessee - 2010 Spring Floods

Hundreds of people in NW Tennessee were impacted by the spring floods. Hardest hit ares were older, uninsured homes in a low income area. Most will need to be demolished and rebuilt. Skilled volunteers are needed with housing provided by the church, including access to a kitchen, showers and laundry facilities. Contact Rev. Robert Craig at Dyersburg FUMC (731) 285-6454 to schedule a team.

Central Tennessee is expecting upwards of 2400 long-term recovery cases, many involving construction. The conference is currently putting together a team info packet with information for rebuild teams.  Interested churches can send inquiries to DisasterResponse@tnumc.org or call (615) 695-2765
